Positional Information: (invented by Lewis Wolpert)

If the concentration of the diffusing chemical is more than 0.8, but less than 0.9,
then differentiate into bone cells.

If the concentration of the diffusing chemical is more than 0.6, but less than 0.7,
then differentiate into bone cells.

If the concentration of the diffusing chemical is more than 0.4, but less than 0.5,
then differentiate into bone cells.

If the concentration of the diffusing chemical is more than 0.2, but less than 0.3,
then differentiate into bone cells.

If the concentration of the diffusing chemical ismore than 0.0, but less than 0.1,
then differentiate into bone cells.

A hypothetical set of rules that can cause formation of five parallel bones,
whose widths and locations will automatically adjust in proportion to the total length of the organism.

If the organism is longer, that will cause the hypothetical diffusion gradient also to be longer, and have a more gradual slope.

This hypothesis was invented specifically to explain Driesch's phenomenon.

(Which Driesch explained as results of supernatural thinking "Entelechy" spirits)

Turing had invented the word "morphogen" to refer to the chemicals that form waves of alternating higher and lower concentrations. Wolpert borrowed this same word "Morphogen" to mean substance that form monotonic gradients. This has confused people.
